New Mexico State University is embarking on a series of conferences on a variety of sustainable topics. The venue for this program is being offered by SARE (Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education). The upcoming conference will be held at UNM Valencia Campus on December 16th. Topics at the conference will be wide-spread, including a discussion on Water quality in Aquaponics systems, which essentially grows fish and plants together in one integrated system. For 20 years, SARE’s contributions to sustainable agriculture have been driven by, and dependent upon, crucial partnerships with some of the nation’s most innovative farmers and ranchers, land-grant universities and other organizations. SARE is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program that functions through competitive grants conducted cooperatively by farmers, ranchers, researchers and agricultural professionals to advance farm and ranch systems that are profitable, environmentally sound and good for communities. The state of New Mexico is part of the western region SARE program and is housed by New Mexico State University in Las Cruces.
